Bot-iful Girl Helper

Often times, girls are trapped in feelings of not being perfect, and our bot is here to provide them with emotional support on one of the most used platforms amongst youth, Discord!

Inspiration

Based on statistics and research gathered from Park Nicollet Melrose Center, I decided to create a project that would help give our girls emotional support to sway them from body image/mental health issues! I decided that the bot should be implemented on Discord over other platforms because Discord is used more frequently amongst our youth.

What it does

Anytime the bot sees a message of hatred or requests for positivity, the bot returns positive messages/memes/quotes/pictures! The bot triggers to words such as "selfcare", "hate" and others!

How I built it

I built the bot using Repl.it! In addition, I used zenquotes.io and connected it to my repl.it to provide random encouraging quotes to the user! I built the bot so that it triggers to certain words/commands such as "!help menu" and "selfcare", and returns the user with a message/image!

Challenges I ran into

I forgot to add important syntax such as colons and indents! I also forgot to add in import json in order for the !encouraging quotes command to work!

Accomplishments that I am proud of

I am proud that I have created something that girls can use to empower themselves and lead them to a better future mentally, socially and emotionally! I know that girls oftentimes struggle with finding perfect for them, and I am happy to announce that this built-in friend will always be there with them and for them.

What I learned

I learned that syntax is very important for the Discord bot to run! In addition, I learned that you must style/name parts of your code properly as it will be hard to go back and identify variables in your code!

What's next for Bot-iful Girl Helper

I hope to make this bot a public bot so that many people all over the world can implement the bots into their servers and make an impact on girls' lives! I also hope to add in more commands so that girls have more fun with the bot!
