About the project
Inspiration
Growing teams don’t usually fail because they lack tools. They fail because context keeps getting rebuilt.
Brand strategy lives in one doc. Creative briefs live in another. Social calendars, office files, client proposals, and AI prompts all drift apart. Every week starts with the same question: what were we trying to say, and where did we leave it?
That friction inspired BOSS (boss.sh) — an operating desk for a growing business where brand memory, office work, AI production, and publishing share one source of truth. Not another isolated dashboard. A place where strategy, production, and delivery reference the same business context.
What it is
BOSS is a multi-module workspace organized around real work:
- Brand — identity (DNA, assets, board), offerings, design, website, social, and market research
- Office — documents, drive, calendar, workspace agents, connections, and delivery tools
- Dashboard / Copilot — navigation, recommendations, and AI assistance grounded in org context
- Public surfaces — marketing, docs, blog, and app entry points that stay linked but purposeful
The goal is simple: capture context once, then shape briefs, assets, plans, and publishes without rewriting the business every cycle.
How we built it
We built BOSS as a full product platform: a web app for day-to-day work, an API for auth and organization data, and supporting services for things like credentials, chat, email, and public sites.
A few product decisions shaped the build:
- Organization-first — every team works inside its own workspace, so context stays with the business
- Role-aware access — people only see the parts of BOSS they’re meant to use
- Modules that match real work — Brand, Office, and Dashboard follow how operators think, not how tools are usually siloed
- Ship in slices — a feature isn’t done when a page exists; it’s done when the right people can find it and use it
We iterate quickly: design the flow, put it in the product, verify it with real org accounts, then deepen what users actually need next.
What we learned
- Context is the product. Features matter less if teams still re-explain the brand every week.
- Structure is part of the experience. Clear Brand and Office areas help people move faster than a pile of disconnected tools.
- Access shapes trust. If the right people can’t find a feature, it might as well not exist.
- Honesty about “coming soon” helps. Showing what’s live versus what’s still forming builds more confidence than pretending everything is finished.
- AI only helps when it knows the business. Generic assistants are easy; assistants grounded in brand and work context are valuable.
Challenges
Scope
“Operating desk” can mean everything. The hard part is choosing what to deepen first without trying to solve every business workflow at once.Keeping the product clear as it grows
Brand, social, documents, calendar, workspace, and AI can overwhelm new users. We constantly balance power with a path that still feels simple.Making AI feel useful, not generic
Chat alone isn’t enough. The challenge is connecting AI to brand identity, assets, and active work so answers feel specific to that business.Shipping while the platform is still forming
Some modules are ready; others are intentionally early. We have to keep momentum without losing trust when a section is still being filled in.Turning one product into a real business
Building features is one thing. Packaging them into plans, allowances, and clear product value is the next leap.
What’s next
- Paid plans with higher feature allowances — unlock more capacity for teams as they grow (seats, usage, AI, publishing, and storage limits that scale with the plan)
- More core features across Brand and Office — deeper identity, social, documents, calendar, and workspace workflows that feel complete end-to-end
- More products inside the BOSS ecosystem — expand from the core app into clearer product lines teams can adopt as they need them (brand, office, publishing, AI production, and public surfaces)
- Richer AI grounded in business memory — Copilot and generation tools that use Brand DNA, assets, and live work context
- Stronger go-to-market packaging — clearer plan tiers, upgrade paths, and onboarding so a new org feels useful in the first session
