Inspiration
We were inspired by the call this year to, "...reach new heights". Upon brainstorming this prompt, it became clear there was no greater way to reach new heights than to bring community along with us.
What it does
Borrowit! brings university community together by providing a platform for students to easily share and borrow each other's possessions, with an internal rating system that incentivizes fair interactions and careful use of borrowed things.
How we built it
Our webapp was built with next.js in Google Antigravity, using git as our version control. We first generated a core landing page, then delegated out features to each team member to gradually build up to the MVP.
Challenges we ran into
The whole group had a total of 0 years of experience with hackathons and almost no knowledge of git. Additionally, right at the end, MongoDB's response time suddenly multiplied. Requests that used to take less than a second now took 3 minutes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of learning how to effectively use git in a team setting to accelerate development, we're proud of the teamwork we cultivated in these long 24 hours, and we're proud of our project!
What we learned
We learned how to better use agentic coding tools to rapidly prototype features, how to use git and GitHub to manage a team-scale project, and how to optimize our development schedule to fit an extreme deadline.
What's next for "Borrowit!"?
Borrowit! has legs! With a little more love, this could at least be an interesting social experiment to unleash on campus, and at most this could be the beginning of a new age of community-wide sharing. Maybe Borrowit! will inspire just enough people to bring society as a whole to new heights!
