Inspiration

We often face a situation when we need an item for one time use or for a short period of time, but we cannot afford to buy it or don't want to spend money just for one time. On the other hand we have an item that is sitting idle at home and we can lend it to others who need it. From the desire to borrow and lend, we came up with the idea to build an online platform where people can help each other by borrowing and lending. This platform will be very helpful during crisis time like corona virus pandemic.

What it does

Borlens online platform allows one to list sharable items, borrow or lend, keep track of the item.

How we built it

We are building it with ruby-on-rails and keeping the data separate from clients with API access points. As a client a mobile app or website will interact with the backend data via API calls, thus providing security of data and flexibility of design and development of the client side.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing the workflow of a sharing experiences between two users. The mobile app development as we plan to build the mobile app using Flutter which we are learning.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

We have done the initial ground work and setup the backend database. We have also created some API access points to the backend.

What we learned

What's next for Borlens

Completing the feature to share an item. Mobile app development.
