Problem Statement

While short-form content dominates TikTok’s algorithm, videos that require days or weeks of effort, like animations, artist time-lapses, or high-production skits, often get buried under the flood of frequent, lower-effort posts. This leaves talented creators discouraged and viewers missing out on truly inspiring content.

What if we could help more people discover it?

Features and Functionality

BoosTok is a proposed TikTok feature designed to give high-effort, creative content a fairer chance at visibility.

BoosTok does this by introducing a “Boost” button to the video feed that allows users to boost videos they believe deserve more attention. This temporarily increases the video’s visibility across TikTok feeds.

BoostTok creates a reward system based not just on frequency of posting, but on the perceived quality and creativity of content.

Impact

For Creators: Encourages more thoughtful and high-effort content creation by giving these works a fair shot at reaching wider audiences.

For Viewers: Surfaces hidden gems that might otherwise be lost in the algorithm.

For the Platform: Promotes a healthier balance between quantity-driven and quality-driven content.
