Inspiration

The summer after graduating from college, I found myself reading countless books. I'd pick the next one up as soon as I put one down, an endless stream of stories and nonfiction lessons permeating through my mind.

However, I soon realized that I couldn't remember much of what I'd read. _ What was that book about? What were the key takeaways? What was the name of the protagonist in that story? _

So I decided to build a better way to track and remember what I read. Enter Bookshelf.

What it does

Bookshelf is a beautiful reading tracker that not only lets you build your library and to-read list, but also actively helps you remember what you read through spaced repetition quizzes and daily reviews.

KEY FEATURES 📚 Quickly add books you’ve read, books you’re reading, and books you want to read. 📁 Organize your library with smart collections. 📈 Improve your reading habits with insightful stats and trend reports. 🏆 Stay motivated with reading goals, streaks, and reminders. 🧠 Remember what you read by writing and reviewing notes and quotes.

How I built it

An Apple fanatic at heart, I first built Bookshelf with Swift and UIKit. When SwiftUI came out, I started refactoring the app feature by feature, and my productivity has skyrocketed at least 10x.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Soon after launching, Apple featured Bookshelf (then called Summarize) as "App of the Day" and on their "Apps We Love" list in the App Store.

What's next for Bookshelf: Reading & TBR Tracker

I'm still building! I'm also trying to focus more on growth and marketing, because I truly believe Bookshelf has the potential to be the #1 app in its category, especially given its thoughtful, user-centered design and extensive feature set.
