Inspiration
- We all wanted to make book reading on a regular basis more accessible
- This application allows others to get into reading books easier!
What it does
- Scrapes the web for books given a title and adds them to a to-read list.
- The books can also be added to a completed books list to keep track of them.
How we built it
- We used python, google_images_downloader, BeautifulSoup, and urllib to build our project.
Challenges we ran into
- None of us were familiar with python and it was our first time web scraping so it took a lot longer learning how to code than expected.
- We also wanted to implement a GUI but due to time constraints were not able to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We managed to implement a user interface inside the terminal that allows users to use the app from there.
What we learned
- We improved our python knowledge and learned about different types of imports that can really help with coding
- We learned how web-scraping works in python!
What's next for BookShelf
- Next up we want to add new types of things that BookShelf can have such as: magazines, audiobooks, etc.
- We also want to complete the GUI with book covers that we were planning on coding!
