Inspiration

It was my first day of high school, my family was going through somewhat of a financial crisis so I decided to borrow textbooks and study materials from my seniors for less than one-third of what it would have cost my parents. This incident inspired Bookshelf, where this solution has the potential to be taken on a larger scale and help the environment and many other students and their families.

What it does

So at bookshelf we are trying to create an ecosystem within schools and other educational institutions where books can be recycled more efficiently and sustainably by students who can hand them over to their peers who will be studying the same subject as them.

How we built it

We are trying our best to reach out to schools to try and implement this idea.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we are facing at the moment is that to create a kind of condition check where the books have to pass a condition check in order for them to be handed over.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I insisted two friends of mine to follow this idea and to borrow books instead of buying new ones for their new academic years. They were able to save nearly 10000 rupees combined. They to this date have never brought books for studies.

What we learned

We learn that books still hold the same knowledge and wisdom it had held when bought new, just that it needs to be passed on to the person who requires this knowledge and that books still hold great potential after years of use.

What's next for Bookshelf

We at bookshelf are trying our best to find members with the same motive, and try help taking bookshelf to the next level.
