Inspiration
Our group loves to read and share memorable moments; there is no better way to do so than with an app!
What it does
It allows a Google user to sign in, post their favourite quotes, add the author and book name, as well as the mood of how the quote makes them feel, allowing the user to use Gemini to think of the best mood for each quote as well. It allows you to save, like, and keep track of your quotes and your most-used mood.
How we built it
We separated into backend, frontend, and AI development. Combined our ideas about halfway through, and worked together to make the website flow as smoothly as possible.
Challenges we ran into
The Gemini AI tokens ran out a few times while testing, which made debugging a bit difficult, as well as making the website not flow as wished. We also had some problems figuring out the overall design of the website since teammates had contrasting opinions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete a useful app that allows you to do something simple but fun, and we got to implement and build something we are actually interested in!
What we learned
We could use better time management skills. I believe we wasted a lot of time on simpler things, like the design and overall idea. We could've focused on creating more tools for this website, like sharing, personalizing backgrounds for quotes, allowing not only book quotes (songs, movies, TV shows, etc...) Overall, we did a good job, but definitely have some improvements to be made for the next hackathons!
What's next for BookQuotes App
As mentioned above, have features for not ONLY books, but also allowing personalized fonts and backgrounds for your posts to make a fun feed (MyShelf), allowing others to share with their friends and not the public only, and have Gemini do more useful things like finding the book/author's name when one writes the quote.
