BookMe

Inspiration

As college students, we often find it difficult to find proper areas to study. Because of this, we decided to design an app that would fit our needs as college students. In a way, as a group, we strongly inspired each other to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and learned to work together as a team.

What it does

BookMe lets college students and faculty to navigate through different buildings on campus in order to find available rooms. You are able to reserve those rooms at available time slots. The app even allows users to submit feedback of their experience, and report necessary maintenance requests.

How we built it

Our empathy towards college students inspired our designs and design choices. We built all of the prototyping through Figma. All of the designs itself were created through Photoshop and Figma as well. The entire process required a lot of testing, scrapping, and reworking.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of the work felt redundant and continuous, we often struggled to stay on task and awake. We had to learn a variety of technical aspects of the different software we utilized, through our journey. We ran into a lot of challenges regarding the amount of features to add and all of the scenarios that could cause problems for our users. While it wasn’t possible to design every feature we would want functionally, the most important functions (and plenty of unimportant functions) are implemented into our design. We were challenged to think about how to integrate our app into college culture, so many of these situational scenarios won’t occur.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The map navigation was an incredibly overambitious idea we had. After countless hours, we eventually got it complete, exceeding our expectations of how its result.

What we learned

We learned countless skills we will take into our future projects and careers. Just to name a few, we fine tuned skills of teamwork, problem solving, communication, creativity, and time management, design decisions, empathy, adaptability, and trust. This project not only helped us hone our skills, but it let us surprise ourselves with the determination we developed.

What's next for BookMe

The future of BookMe is to implement this system into all college campuses starting with our own University of Texas at Dallas. We will add to our app to have more features for our users and fix any bugs and problems there might be. We want BookMe to become a second nature to college students and we want them to easily rely on us, even if they don’t realize they do.
