Inspiration
Encouraged to be able to learn more about a book simply by a picture of its cover, or a quote from the book.
What it does
BookBuddy finds a books author, title, and summary from a picture of the cover from the book.
How we built it
We built our mobile application using Android Studio, using the programming languages Java and XML. Our app has the capability to take title and author names and find the details of the corresponding book. Our app also has the function of scanning the cover of a book and detecting the name and details of the book.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into OCR (Optical Character Recognition) difficulty, but managed to get through them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that our app is able to scan books and return the details of the book.
What we learned
We learned about the importance of not giving up as we were able to persevere and ultimately complete our app even though we faced many challenges.
What is next
We plan to add speech-to-text functionally so that users can type in a quote from the book and have the app recognize the details of the book.
