Inspiration

I've got shelves full of books at home, and each one is like a friend I've made along the way. That's why I decided to create the 'Book Advisor' app. I wanted to share the magic of finding just the right book at just the right time with others like me, who find comfort and adventure in the pages of a good story.

What it does

'Book Advisor' is like a cozy bookshop that knows exactly what you're looking for. It listens to what kind of stories light up your imagination, what language you dream in, and even how much time you have to read. Then, it finds the perfect book for you.

How I built it

Working with PartyRock to build this app meant I had to get inventive since I couldn't use images to make it visually appealing. I focused on the words and the experience, designing every corner of the app to feel like a conversation with a book-loving friend.

Challenges I ran into

Not being able to use pictures was tough. Books are so much about the cover, the feel, the art. So, I had to recreate that warmth and anticipation you get when you pick up a new book, all without a single image.

No being allowed to use statics images, enhanced markdown capabilities could help a little with this, for inserting images and changing font colors would greatly improve content presentation. I can do this in markdown since I have used this before, I tried to do the same here without success. This is important for adding personality to my project , to infuse my apps with life.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm really proud of how 'Book Advisor' feels. It's simple, but it's warm and inviting. And it really works! It feels amazing to see it not just recommend books but also inspire people to read more.

What I learned

I learned that when you hit a roadblock, it doesn't mean the end of the road; it just means you need to take a different path. And often, that new path leads to even better places. With 'Book Advisor', I hope to share the joy of a new book with everyone who uses it.
