Welcome to Boogle. We are a marketplace that fosters a sense of community and belonging among the black people. There are over 260 000 members in the Black community here in Toronto alone, many of which have faced and continue to face adversity — including systemic oppression, discrimination, limited opportunities — in integrating into various societies away from home. Supporting black people means working towards dismantling systemic racism and creating a more just and equitable society. We strive to support the underserved BIPOC minority by providing a platform where black businesses and black clientele can directly connect. When a BIPOC individual, for instance, searches for a haircut, the majority of the search results generated by Google are geared towards a white audience. Two keywords have to always be added: For Black. This may seem like a trivial detail but it generates some severe psychological implications — it evokes a feeling of abnormality and isolation. Inspiration
Boogle, our search engine generates relevant results tailored towards BIPOC. With the incorporation of Slack channels, potential customers can chat with other people who have tried the service. This provides unbiased reviews while creating a dynamic virtual community. Additionally, with the use of Co:here, not only are the comments classified as negative and positive, offensive and inappropriate attacks on our community will be eradicated.
