Inspiration

We wanted to come up with a game that we could interact with. Hangman was one of our favourite games growing up, so we decided to implement it.

What it does

It simulates the classic game of Hangman but with our twist on it. We implemented a single player version that is theme-based so that the user can build their knowledge base. We also implemented a multiplayer version to play with a friend.

How we built it

We used Java to implement a Hangman class and a HangmanGUI class.

Challenges we ran into

In our multiplayer version we needed to hide the word inputted by the players. This posed a challenge for us as we had never done it before but we figured it out!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

For two out of three of our members it was their first experience at a hackathon and at using github. We are very proud to be able to create something usable in a limited amount of time.

What we learned

We learned that the java.io.Console library could be used to hide user input.

What's next for Bonhomme Pendu

We want to keep updating our database of words. We would also like to implement a method that provides hints when the user asks for it. Although we love the old-school vibe of the stick hangman, we would like to implement a better GUI in the future
