Building a website still feels harder than it should.
Many people start with an idea—a landing page, portfolio, business website, or online project—but quickly run into complicated editors, confusing settings, hosting, domains, and technical setup.
We wanted to simplify that experience.
The idea behind BoltWeb was simple: give people one place where they can build their website, customize it visually, and publish it without needing to piece together multiple tools.
What it does
BoltWeb is a website builder designed to make creating and publishing a website simpler.
Users can build pages visually, customize layouts and content, and turn an idea into a live website.
The goal is to remove the frustrating parts of getting online so creators, founders, and small businesses can spend more time building their idea and less time figuring out technical setup.
How I built it
I built BoltWeb using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and MongoDB.
The project combines a visual website-building experience with the infrastructure needed to manage and publish websites.
I also integrated services for authentication, data management, payments, email, and development workflows. The focus throughout development was to create an experience that feels simple while still giving users control over what they build.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing simplicity and flexibility.
A website builder needs to be easy enough for beginners while still allowing users to create something that doesn't feel limited or identical to every other website.
Another challenge was handling the technical side of publishing websites, managing user projects, performance, and making sure the building experience stayed fast as the project grew.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that BoltWeb turned from an idea into a working product.
The most rewarding part has been building something that brings multiple parts of the website creation process together instead of forcing users to jump between different tools.
I'm also proud of the progress made in creating a product that real people can use to turn an idea into a published website.
What I learned
Building BoltWeb taught me that the hardest part of creating a product isn't always writing the code.
It's understanding where users get stuck.
I learned the importance of simplifying decisions, listening to feedback, improving the experience through iteration, and focusing on what actually helps someone get from “I have an idea” to “my website is live.”
What's next for BoltWeb
Next, I want to make BoltWeb even easier and more powerful.
The roadmap includes improving the visual builder, adding more customization options, making publishing and domain setup smoother, and continuing to build features that help people create better websites faster.
The bigger goal is simple:
Make building a website feel less like configuring software—and more like creating.
