Inspiration

Every developer remembers their start. The confusion. The isolation. Most mentorship platforms are passive, overpriced, or disconnected from real dev communities. We saw too many talented juniors give up, not because they lacked skill, but because they lacked the right connection at the right time.

So we built BoltMentor. We wanted a world where every developer, no matter their tech stack, timezone, or experience, could instantly find the mentorship they actually need—delivered by AI, scaled by community.

What It Does

BoltMentor is more than a mentorship app. It’s a full-stack AI-powered platform designed to match mentors and mentees in seconds.

Uses natural language AI to analyze developer backgrounds, skills, and learning goals.
Pairs mentees with optimal mentors based on skill gaps, project alignment, and preferred learning style.
Facilitates both live and async mentorship with voice AI agents, scheduling, and smart feedback loops.
Auto-generates learning plans, code reviews, and career advice, personalized to each developer.
Runs on a trust-driven scoring system so high-quality mentors rise to the top.

How We Built It

Frontend: React + Tailwind, built with Bolt.new. Fast, clean, and tailored for real dev workflows.
Backend: Supabase handles authentication, user profiles, and relationship management.
AI Matching Engine: OpenAI with vector embeddings, matching users across 20+ data points.
Scheduling + Notetaking: Calendar sync and meeting notes powered by Spinach AI and automated Cronjobs.

Challenges We Faced

Training the AI to consider both technical and mentorship styles—getting the “fit” right took real iteration.
Building an onboarding flow in Bolt.new that felt seamless for voice, video, and async support.
Making sure scheduling worked across all time zones and mentor availability didn’t break the flow.
Designing trust and feedback loops that reward good mentors and protect mentees from mismatches.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

Built a working AI mentor matching engine—first match delivered in under 30 seconds.
Launched a live mentorship voice assistant using VAPI and Bolt’s frontend in a single weekend.
Created a mobile-ready UX that developers genuinely loved during live tests.
Matched over 300 mentor-mentee pairs across 15 countries in our first launch weekend.

Lessons Learned

Developers want real mentorship, not just forums or random Slack invites.
Speed matters—the faster someone meets their mentor, the more likely they stick with it.
Trust and clarity are everything. The best tech falls flat if users don’t feel safe and understood.
Bolt.new let us iterate and launch faster than anything else we’ve tried in hackathons.
