Every day, tons of edible food is wasted while millions of people go to bed hungry. We were deeply moved by this imbalance and wanted to build a platform that could bridge this gap using technology. Our goal was simple: make it easy for anyone with extra food to donate meals to those in need, quickly and efficiently.

What it does

Bolt2Meal is a web-based platform that connects individuals and restaurants with surplus meals to people experiencing food insecurity. Donors can list available meals, while recipients can request them based on availability and location. The platform creates a streamlined process to reduce food waste and ensure meals reach those who need them the most — promoting a culture of giving, compassion, and sustainability.

## How we built it We built Bolt2Meal using the Bolt.new platform, which allowed us to rapidly design, develop, and deploy our web app with the help of AI. The front end was created with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript inside Bolt’s intuitive environment. We also integrated form handling to collect donor and recipient data and used Netlify to host the live website.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the key challenges we faced included:

Designing a user flow that worked for both donors and recipients.

Ensuring data from the forms was collected and organized effectively.

Managing responsiveness and mobile accessibility to make the platform inclusive.

Balancing simplicity with meaningful impact within a limited hackathon time frame.

-Built a smooth user interface that allows both donating and requesting meals in seconds.

-Launched our platform live on the web using Netlify — making it accessible to anyone, anywhere.

What we learned

This project taught us the importance of user-centered design, quick iteration, and how technology can be a powerful tool for social good. We also explored the strengths of the Bolt.new platform and how AI tools can accelerate meaningful development when paired with clear intentions.

What's next for Bolt2meal

We plan to:

-Add location-based filtering to connect nearby donors and recipients.

-Integrate real-time notifications and confirmation systems.

-Partner with local NGOs, community kitchens, and restaurants to scale the impact.

-Add user authentication, ratings, and feedback features to enhance trust and safety.

Our vision is to evolve Bolt2Meal into a globally accessible platform that empowers communities to fight hunger together, one meal at a time.
