Inspiration
In today's digital age, the vastness of online content can be both a blessing and a curse. The inspiration for Bolt stemmed from our personal experiences and the realization that learners often struggle to navigate this sea of information. We envisioned a tool that wouldn't just help students access information but would tailor that information, making learning more intuitive, personal, and effective.
What it does
A browser plugin tailored for modern online learners. Providing a suite of AI-powered features designed to simplify the online learning process. It personalizes online information to align with your preferences, makes it easier to reinforce what you have learned, and can provide guidance for reflecting on content you have seen and providing pathways for further exploration.
How we built it
The tool was built as a Chrome plugin leveraging Vue.js and Typescript as our framework and OpenAI's APIs for AI output.
Challenges we ran into
Every innovation comes with its set of challenges. For Bolt, these ranged from ensuring our AI could accurately adapt to diverse learning styles, to creating an intuitive interface across various devices and content platforms. Each hurdle we faced provided invaluable lessons and pushed us to think outside the box, iterating and refining our solution.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It fills us with pride to see Bolt not just as a POC but as a real functional tool we would all like to use. The positive feedback from mentors, witnessing the tool simplify complex content, and fostering a deeper, more critical engagement with information stand as testaments to our vision and hard work.
What we learned
AI is hard
Working with AI is not a straightforward process. Even if you are using APIs for existing AI models, the tools can be temperamental, and debugging issues can be difficult with little insight into how the model works.
Being unique in the AI space is even harder
With these AI tools being so easy to use, there are many tools that do the same thing in the market. Finding a way to differentiate and hold on to that unique value can be difficult in this saturated market.
What's next for Bolt
As promising as Bolt's current capabilities are, we see this as just the beginning. The roadmap ahead includes expanded browser compatibility, refining our AI models to capture even more nuanced user preferences, and introducing features that continue to make online learning not just simpler but also richer and more rewarding.
