Inspiration

We were looking for ways to make connecting with others in a meaningful manner fun and intuitive. The idea of bringing together those who need help with those who can do so was a central idea throughout development.

What it does

Sidequestr gives you sidequests to meet and connect with new people - maybe it's volunteering or they just need a hand, but Sidequestr serves as a way for you to give, get, and build connections.

How we built it

We used Flask, React, and CRUD operations to make the site, using Google Maps' API for our map view.

Challenges we ran into

Learning to use new tools like AI was a challenge. We had to learn the best way to integrate AI into our workflow. Our team has had little or no prior hackathon experience, so getting started was a little tricky--once we got the core features done, however, things went quite smoothly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Coding assistants were wrangled into working, which was pretty tough but it was cool to see it all working. We're also pretty happy with the Google Maps integration.

What we learned

We did end up learning a lot about how to collaborate, delegate work, and produce working results using any tools available.

What's next for Sidequestr

The obvious next step is to deploy the app and find users to start building a community. Potential new features could include a gamified progression system--virtual rewards for volunteering--or a way for users and organizations to verify themselves and provide volunteer hours to attendees of their events.
