Inspiration
Listening to Dave Margulius talk about climate change this weekend, I wanted to connect climate change and space in my favorite medium (a game). Gameplay-wise, I was inspired by previous planet-hopping based minigames from old websites like notdoppler.com, and by a minigame in Pummel Party where you carry gold back to your truck but the more you carry, the slower you are.
What it does
Boiling Point is a 2D platformer with planet-based physics. It is runnable in HTML in the browser here: https://henree.itch.io/boiling-point
How we built it
Boiling Point was developed using Godot Engine v4.2.1.
Challenges we ran into
Main challenges were shifting concepts and changing teammates for the first half of the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The physics of planetary movement turned out great, and I was able to reuse existing assets in a creative way to make my own product.
What we learned
It's harder than we thought to make the game you see in your head. As long as it looks and feels good, it's worth making the prototype.
What's next for Boiling Point
Boiling Point could be expanded to have more planet types, more resources to collect, more hazards, and self-made art and audio.
