Inspiration
We struggled to find compatible roommates during our first weeks of college. Inspired, we built BoilerMate, a platform that matches students based on lifestyle, interests, and study habits. What started as a personal issue became a solution that turns uncertain college beginnings into lasting friendships.
What it does
BoilerMate helps college students find compatible roommates by matching them based on lifestyle, interests, and study habits. It reduces conflicts, saves time, and creates an environment where friendships and academic success can thrive.
How we built it
We combined our skills in coding and design to develop a platform that collects structured user data, applies a compatibility algorithm, and generates ranked roommate matches. We focused on building an intuitive interface, optimizing the matching logic, and ensuring recommendations reflect user preferences accurately.
Challenges we ran into
We weren't aware of many languages and frameworks used in our projects. Still, we combined our skills in coding, design, and experience to create a platform that collects user preferences, analyzes compatibility, and suggests the best roommate matches. We focused on simplicity, user experience, and accurate recommendations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully came together as a team to conceptualize BoilerMate, designed the initial platform structure, and outlined the matching system. We turned an idea into a concrete plan and a prototype vision for solving the roommate problem.## What we learned We each brought different technical skills to the team, which allowed us to learn from one another, grow individually, and creatively tackle real-world problems together.
What's next for BoilerMate
We plan to work on the fine-details of our project and make it more user friendly in the future. We would love to add a feature where people can converse with other recommended roommate suggestions, or even be part of group chats for the same year of graduation and major.
