Inspiration

As avid travelers from a young age, our journeys across different destinations revealed a common disappointment: many places are merely tourist attractions that fail to capture the authentic essence of local life. This realization inspired us to create a travel application that goes beyond standard trip planning - we connect travelers with genuine local experiences and hidden gems that only residents know about. Our platform bridges the gap between being an outsider and experiencing a destination through local eyes, offering access to those special places and moments that define the true character of a location but remain invisible to typical tourists following conventional guidebooks.

What it does

Globu is a travel companion app that unlocks authentic experiences by connecting you with local recommendations, helping you discover those special places that tourists typically miss but locals treasure. The app's intuitive note system lets you organize your adventure while enjoying location-specific Spotify playlists that set the perfect soundtrack for each destination you explore. As you travel, Globu celebrates your journey by tracking visited locations and awarding achievement badges, creating a personalized travel story that grows with each new discovery.

How we built it

We utilized Figma to articulate our ideas through hyperlinks, plugins, and shared design spaces where our rough concepts transformed into vibrant prototypes that everyone could see, touch, and refine together.

Challenges we ran into

One memorable challenge we faced was during our brainstorming sessions, when the team's boundless creativity would spiral into fascinating but off-topic territories, only to be gently guided back to our core mission by a vigilant teammate who recognized when our collective imagination needed gentle redirection toward purposeful outcomes.
