An app that let's you track your favorite bubble tea drinks across all cafes, and share how much you love boba among your friends

Inspiration & What it does

As an avid drinker of bubble teas fortunate enough to be surrounded by an ever-growing number of boba cafes, I wanted a way to keep track of my favorite drinks at each of these places. Boba cafes tend to have extensive menus that can be overwhelming to a newcomer. To solve this issue, I created an app that tracks your boba drinking habits and those of the people that you follow. When you go get boba, you can drop a pin at that location on the map and include details like what drink you got (toppings, sugar and ice levels, etc.), what you thought of it, and how you rate it. People that follow you would receive a notification about the drink you're sipping and vice versa. If you feel stuck deliberating what to get at a cafe, you can refer to the app to see drinks that the people you follow got as well as their opinion about them. The main view of this app features a map with pins of drink ratings at various locations. You get to compare what you and your community think about the drinks at various boba cafes. Additionally, the app keeps track of the number of drinks you've gotten overall as well as those of the people you follow.

How I built it

I developed the app using Dart and Flutter. For the map features, I used the Google Maps SDK through Google Cloud Platform.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of & What I learned

I learned a lot about app development and about using a coding language with a declarative structure. This was my first time using Flutter, so I'm proud of all that I was able to do within the hackathon time such as being able to integrate the Maps SDK, creating the essential app views, and developing most of the functionality out.

Challenges I ran into & What's next for Boba Map

Due to the time limitations and being a team of one, I was not able to complete all the functionality that I envisioned for this app. Some of that functionality would be tracking boba drinks over different periods of time, sorting through people you're following by different criteria, searching through reviews, and having achievements for drinking boba and using the app.
