Inspiration

We deeply connected with the pursuit of STEM, but also greatly deeply believe in the power of collaborative and fun learning styles. To be able to utilize the latter to bolster the former, we created an educational app platform that simulates an arcade with fun gameplay for students, designed to not only strengthen current skills in math and science, but also generate interest as they play and create lasting passion for STEM education.

Growth

Modeling our app after popular arcade games, we ventured into a realm of game development for our project, which was unfamiliar to a lot of us in terms of our experience with traditional full-stack software engineering. We learned a new full-stack configuration with technologies we did not combine before, but also had to learn a whole new framework to handle our game assets and movement. On a bigger picture, we stepped into an unfamiliar realm and embraced what we know to achieve what we didn't before.

Challenges

We faced various challenges, one even in the conceptual stage itself. Figuring out a way to incorporate fun learning for students, but go beyond the traditional "workbook" methodology and create something to educate more on the cool parts of STEM was difficult, and alongside our technical troubles, we faced a lot of challenges this time. However, we are glad to have had them as they have strengthened our confidence, knowledge, and belief in our solution and our cause.
