Inspiration
I was inspired to make a post apocalyptic dream with plenty of rainbow and whimsy and pure fun. My biggest inspiration has got to be Mad Max. I think my exact words to the team were “Think Mad Max but RAINBOW!”. I’ve always loved post apocalyptic aesthetic and really wanted to make a dystopian world in my own style.
What it does
The world is a tag game where players run like mad to collect boba in a world where bubble tea is now precious fuel. The bubble tea fuels a giant robot after the players make a mad dash and try to outrun the other team.
How we built it
We used Blender to make to make our assests. The team consists of Zephyr Stepper, Annabanana_01 and 19Jordan99: I, Zephyr created the concept and game mechanics, designed and built the world. Anna designed all the graphics, artwork, graffiti displayed all around the world and helped build. Jordan scripted the world and helped build.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges script-wise but managed to hammer out the rough edges. A challenge for me was making sure the flow of the world layout was as liquid as possible; I really wanted the player to run and feel free with plenty of areas to escape.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were really proud of the view created in the world. We’re proud that no matter where the gaze falls it’s nothing but art and color to feast on.
What we learned
We learned so much about scripting in this game. Scripting was definitely the key. We’ve also learned so much about color theory.
What's next for Boba Blitz
Next for Boba Blitz is characters and narrative! We can’t wait to add more lore. There’s a whole vibrant story that goes along with this world!
