Inspiration

Teachers are a foundational piece of every society, without them we would never be able to innovate and create. We believed that we should give back to our educators and create a platform that makes it easier for them to connect with other teachers, share resources and lesson plans, as well as provide a safe space for pedagogical or personal discussion.

What it does

Boardroom connects teachers from all over and allows them to have one sleek platform to save resources other teachers share, directly message other users, share news/discussion posts, as well as search through resources posted on the website.

How we built it

We first created a very thorough design document outlining what we believed our platform should be able to do and what technologies/structures would make our ideas reality. We also created several personas in order to ensure that Boardroom would be accessible and enjoyable for all. After outlining our ideas in the design document, we then created several mockup images of what our platform would look like in order to ensure we had a consistent aesthetic throughout and to make sure we had an art direction to go with that would be appealing to teachers. When we got to the actual coding, we utilized Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

Since we are a two person team, we quickly found that sharing all of this work between just two people was quite difficult. Most of our platform as of March 24, 2024 is mostly frontend as we did not have time to create and link a database or do too much backend work. We had to ensure we were planning out every stage and account for possible hiccups in order to make the absolute most of our limited time. We even ended up sleeping in shifts just to ensure that we had some productivity at every hour in the past 24 hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are still extremely proud of what we accomplished in the past 24 hours. Our UI mockups were amazing and provided great guidance for frontend development. The frontend, though not perfect, is fairly close to some of the mockups that we produced. With more time and polishing, the beautiful mockups appear even more plausible. Both of us managed to work for >8 hours at a time, twice.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the design process, how important planning is, and how we would distribute the work if we had more members on our team.

What's next for BOARDROOM
