Inspiration
Our project was inspired by high-performance race cars and the BMW M3 Competition. We wanted to combine engineering, creativity, and CAD design to create a custom widebody aerodynamic package that improves the car's appearance and performance potential.
What it does
Our project transforms the BMW M3 Competition into a race-inspired vehicle with custom widebody fenders, front splitter, rear diffuser, hood, spoiler, and wheels. These modifications are designed to enhance aerodynamics, stability, and overall styling.
How we built it
We imported a 3D model of the BMW M3 Competition into SolidWorks and designed individual aerodynamic components. We then adjusted and positioned each part to fit the original vehicle while creating a cohesive racing design.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenges included working with imported STL mesh files, creating smooth surfaces, and ensuring custom parts fit the vehicle correctly. We also had to balance complex designs with the competition's time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a custom widebody aerodynamic design with multiple individually modeled components. We successfully combined our creativity and engineering skills to develop a unique race-inspired BMW M3.
What we learned
We improved our SolidWorks modeling, surface design, and assembly skills. We also gained a better understanding of automotive aerodynamics, CAD modeling challenges, and engineering problem-solving.
What's next for BMW M3 Competition Race car
We plan to further refine our aerodynamic components, explore CFD simulations to evaluate airflow and downforce, and investigate 3D printing to turn our CAD designs into physical prototypes.
