Inspiration

When we initially started generating ideas for the prompt, we first started thinking of certain practices or activities and the emotions they evoke in us. We also attempted to do the opposite by thinking of intangible ideas like feelings of spontaneity and satisfaction and connecting them to elements of our lives that represent those feelings. We eventually settled around the themes of connection between friends, in particular, those you only see once in a while, and when you do see them, you talk for hours on end trying to catch up on everything that you have missed in each other's lives. When we thought of digitizing a way to allow friends to be able to have those in-depth conversations that could go on for hours, sharing every little new detail in your lives, we realized we would be taking away from those scarce moments of of powerful connection, so we pivoted to thinking about other moments of between friends. We eventually began to think about the idea of randomly bumping into a friend on the street. Sometimes, it can be challenging to remember to reach out and check in on our friends, and these chance encounters could be all it takes to reconnect with someone.

What our product does

BUMP initiates these chance encounters by allowing the user to select contacts of people they would potentially want to bump into and randomly calling both parties at the same time and inviting them to a video call.

How we built it

Our design is prototyped in Figma.

Challenges we ran into

We had some challenges finalizing our idea and thinking about how to capture an emotion through an interface.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of ourselves for incorporating animations in Figma and producing a prototype!

What we learned

We learned that designing an effective interface involves tapping into people's senses and crafting an experience for them.
