Inspiration

Other anonymous forums and friends asking the same questions all the time

What it does

It is usual for students to have similar questions. Blur allows students to check if their questions have been answered before, find out information about events, and share concerns about life at the university. Each blur forum is university-specific and only people with appropriate .edu domain are able to sign in.

How we built it

We used Express.js with cockroach DB for the backend and React.js for the frontend. The demo is deployed on Heroku with no authentication required.

Challenges we ran into

It was our first time using cockroach db and express.js. We encountered a lot of unknowns and exciting challenges related to using the new tech stack.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Connecting everything together was a significant achievement for us. We were most familiar with React and nothing else; so making sure that all of the desired endpoints connect was huge.

What we learned

Teamwork is a powerful tool. Efficiently managing and delegating tasks, while working in a group of people connected with a common goal, is incredibly fun and invigorating. In addition, we definitely learned technology better, including express and cockroach.db

What's next for blur

This project is manageable to implement on a small scale in a short time. So we plan to launch it and get feedback at the University of Richmond. Hopefully, expand to all universities across the world later c:
