Problem statement

Water is a daily necessary resource for life, health, economic development and the ecosystem all over the world. As water is precious to everyone, its avail- ability and quality are essential. Climate change, droughts, water shortages and population growth are increasing the strain on existing water resources, thereby increasing the necessity to preserve and avoid water wastage in the supply system.

Water leakages have been one of the major problems for water utilities in many regions around the world. In fact, in some countries water loss due to water leakages in the supply network exceeds 40% of the water in the supply system, which is quite a signi cant percentage.

Therefore, reduction of water leakages is a very important goal since it means a reduction in the amount of money and energy required on producing and pumping water and also satisfaction of consumer needs through improved reliability of the system.

Our solution

As a solution, we built BlueTech, a smart water meter, that does not only measure water flow like traditional water meters, but also allows the users (consumers and suppliers or utilities) to remotely and continually read and control the water consumption by providing them, with real-time data. Using this technique, utilities can precisely record consumption while identi- fying any anomalies and how the whole distribution network is functioning. On the other hand, consumers can be informed with details about their water consumption which allows them to properly understand their consumption patterns and adopt responsible usage habits.
