Inspiration
I am an ecofreak and has contributed in all possible ways for the environment. Living near marshy land , I came to know that in the recent days the mangroves and corals are steadily reducing due to chemicals released from the factory , pollution etc. A newly spoken idea in cop29 about carbon credit system lead to the inspiration of making this project.
What it does
Creating tamper-proof records on blockchain and linking credits directly to mangrove & coral restoration If a company releases extra CO₂, it must buy carbon credits. One credit equals one unit of CO₂ compensated through verified ocean restoration. This ensures real restoration , tamper-proof records , No double use of the same credit
How we built it
Frontend: React Backend: Node.js + Express Blockchain: Ethereum Smart Contracts: Solidity
Challenges we ran into
A lot of technical as well as structuring challenges , As a team we prioritised planning , designing the UI first to get a clear understanding before building the website . Since the technology like blockchain was new to us , setting up the environment , debugging felt draining yet rewarding our knowledge. This project made us come out of our comfort zones and learn new things.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully completing the blueroots website and deploying it. Learning blockchain technology
What we learned
Technically , a new programming language- solidity , and writing smart contracts and while we started to analyse the damage done to the earth and the amount funded for restoration is very low , we learnt about the responsibility of this younger generation to live life in a sustainable way.
