🪸 Inspiration
India’s coastal ecosystems are vanishing rapidly, impacting both biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions of coastal residents. While the MISHTI Mission aims to restore mangroves, tracking and verifying blue carbon restoration is still fragmented, manual, and non-transparent. We wanted to solve this using cutting-edge technologies — blockchain, AI, and satellite data — to create a transparent, verifiable, and scalable Blue Carbon Registry.
⚙️ What it does
BlueLedger is a blockchain-based Blue Carbon MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) and Carbon Credit Marketplace platform.
NGOs and Panchayats register and upload GPS-tagged restoration data via a mobile app.
AI + NDVI + Bhuvan satellite imagery verify vegetation growth and species.
Smart contracts on Ethereum issue verifiable carbon credits.
Companies can transparently trade these credits through a digital marketplace.
A national dashboard tracks carbon storage, project performance, and community impact in real time.
🏗️ How we built it
We combined multiple technologies into a seamless ecosystem:
Frontend: Mobile and Web apps (React, Flutter)
Backend: Node.js, Express, Docker
Blockchain: Ethereum Mainnet with custodial wallets for NGOs and panchayats
AI/ML: NDVI-based vegetation index analysis and mangrove species identification
Data: Integrated with ISRO’s Bhuvan API and drone imagery
Payments: Razorpay integration for verified earnings
🚧 Challenges we ran into
Fragmented MRV data: We overcame this with an AI + Blockchain MRV pipeline that automates satellite and drone-based verification.
Species identification: Satellite data alone wasn’t enough — so we trained AI models for mangrove species classification.
Complex credit calculations: We built a formula-based LLM model to estimate carbon sequestration accurately.
Low technical literacy: Our custodial wallets and OTP-based onboarding made blockchain access simple for rural stakeholders.
