Inspiration

I was inspired by strategic mobile autobattlers like Super Auto Pets and Backpack Battles. The art style was inspired by antique seed catalogues, seed packet art, and botanical illustration.

How I built it

I mocked up some basic gameplay, art, and systems in Unity and used Google Docs to create additional design documentation. No generative AI was used in this project.

Challenges I ran into

I believe in design by iteration, so writing a design document boldly declaring the direction of the game before a prototype exists is challenging! It instantly made me want to build and test out the game (and so I did prototype out the systems and gameplay in Unity as a part of this project).

What's next for Blue Ribbon Battles

I'm currently on parental leave with my first child. When things settle down, I may finish up the prototype and playtest it at a local playtesting event to get feedback.
