The idea for Food Bridge stemmed from the growing concern about food waste and hunger. Every day, countless meals go to waste while many people struggle with food insecurity. We wanted to create a simple yet impactful platform that could connect donors with communities in need, fostering a culture of sharing and sustainability.

Through research, we learned about the logistical challenges of food donation and sought to streamline the process using technology. The aim was to build an easy-to-use system for individuals, restaurants, and organizations to donate surplus food with confidence and ease. What We Learned Collaboration: Working on this project required us to coordinate design, backend development, and integration efforts effectively. Database Management: Designing an efficient schema for storing and retrieving donation data. Telegram Bot Integration: Automating notifications and community engagement via a Telegram bot was both challenging and rewarding. User-Centric Design: Building a form and interface that is intuitive and accessible to everyone. How We Built It Backend: Built with Python (Flask) for handling form submissions, database interactions, and integrating the Telegram bot. Frontend: A responsive and user-friendly interface using HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. Database: MySQL was used to store donation details, ensuring secure and organized data management. Telegram Bot: A custom bot developed using the Telegram Bot API to notify and engage communities. Deployment: Hosted the application on AWS to ensure scalability and reliability. Challenges We Faced Real-Time Notifications: Ensuring the Telegram bot could handle live updates without delays. Data Validation: Preventing incomplete or incorrect form submissions while maintaining ease of use. Scaling the Platform: Designing a solution that can accommodate growth as more users adopt the platform. Promoting Awareness: Building a network of donors and recipients was as critical as building the platform itself.
