I’m currently in the development phase of the project and have completed approximately 70–75% of the work, including the core blockchain integration, smart contracts, and data verification modules.
🌍 Blockchain-Based Blue Carbon Registry and MRV System
💡 Inspiration
Blue carbon ecosystems — mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes — are nature’s most powerful allies against climate change. However, the lack of a transparent and verifiable system to monitor, record, and reward carbon sequestration has created trust gaps and inefficiencies. Our project bridges this gap by combining blockchain, IoT, and data science to bring transparency, accountability, and accessibility to India’s blue carbon initiatives.
⚙️ What It Does
The Blockchain-Based Blue Carbon Registry and MRV System is a decentralized platform that:
- Records verified plantation and restoration data from coastal regions.
- Uses drones and IoT sensors to collect accurate, real-time environmental data.
- Stores verified data immutably on a blockchain to ensure trust and transparency.
- Tokenizes verified carbon credits using smart contracts, enabling fair trade in carbon markets.
- Empowers local communities, NGOs, and panchayats to directly benefit from carbon credit sales.
🧠 How We Built It
Our system integrates multiple technologies across layers:
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS
- Backend: Python (Flask), SQLAlchemy, Pandas, NumPy
- Blockchain: Solidity smart contracts on Ethereum/Polygon, integrated via Web3.py
- Data Handling: Matplotlib, Plotly for analytics and visualization
- APIs & Integrations: Drone and IoT data pipelines for verification, IPFS for decentralized storage
- Database: PostgreSQL / MongoDB
- Deployment: Cloud-hosted on AWS or Azure
