Us

We are the linear bounded automabros. We are team 7 and in tier 1. We think our project is a good fit for the Best UI/UX design and Best use of Cloud Computing Bounties

Inspiration

Creating an application that provides communities with a means to connect through mental, physical, and emotional health. With the theme of "developing a tool to help people live a healthy lifestyle" in mind, we attempted to hone in our idea to create an app that meaningfully connects communities with health and wellness in mind.

What it does

bltnbrd provides a bulletin board style community hub that allows people to casually connect for wellness-related social events in their community, also it allows individuals to volunteer services such as shop space, art, tutoring, etc.

How we built it

bltnbrd was created using a MERN stack, the MongoDB database is hosted through Atlas on AWS, Authorization was handled by 0Auth, the backend is hosted on Heroku and the front end is hosted on Netlify. the front end mock-up was created using Figma

Challenges we ran into

With the vast storage that MongoDB Atlas afforded us, we wanted to take full advantage of large image sizes so we utilized base64 image optimization. Gathering and Storing an array of Base64 strings in typescript however proved to be quite difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We worked nearly straight through the 24 hours with very few breaks, while there are a few items we would have liked to have added we are very proud of the level of functionality we were able to achieve and our close adherence to the Theme of the competition.

What we learned

We learned a lot about APIs, we also learned a lot about chakra UI, only two of us were well versed in it so it was a fantastic learning opportunity. only one of us had worked with MongoDB previously so that was a learning experience for most of us and a few of us had a little less React experience. Overall we all supported/taught each other a lot and luckily wound up with a well-rounded team!

What's next for bltnbrd

There are a couple of loose ends we had planned but unfortunately ran out of time for. we wanted to add a rating and reporting system to help promote safety and responsibility on the platform, we also wanted to add functionality for viewing your own services and images independently as well as updating your exiting posts. additionally, we implemented a map with google maps javascript API but it has a "development build" overlay because we chose not to risk inserting our credit card.
