Inspiration
We thought about what problems are prevalent in the status quo and we reflected on struggling small businesses across the world, who need exposure for growth, and who’s problems are now exacerbated due to COVID.
What it does
There are functions for businesses to promote (fertilize) their businesses and add pictures. Users can add reviews to our “Reviews” tab and help water the business (buds), aiding in exposure. There is also a subscribe option where users can be notified about the Top Picked businesses they’re interested in; a feature we weren’t able to actualize.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScipt to code our program on Glitch. It’s important to note, we used open source code for the boxes on our “Buds” and “Reviews” page.
Challenges we ran into
We faced numerous challenged along the way as relatively beginner coders. There were many scratches and modifications to our project ideas, and changes to the features along the way. Due to a lack of coding proficiency, there were also many things we wanted but weren’t able to add to our website. The creation of our project was definitely a rocky ride.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making a somewhat presentable and somewhat abundant website, within a short time and using languages we’ve barely had prior experience in. Pushing through even when we were discouraged!
What we learned
Sometimes settling on a lesser idea may just be better than having no idea on how to act on a greater one.
What's next for BloomBiz
Making the buttons actually behave Adding filter options for users to choose the types of businesses they want to explore (food, recreation, etc.)
