🌸 Blossom — Speech Therapy, Reimagined

Inspiration

Speech therapy is not limited to weekly sessions — it requires consistent, daily practice. However, many patients, including children, adults, and stroke survivors, struggle to maintain progress outside of therapy sessions.

We noticed a critical gap: while some applications provide speech exercises, they often lack real therapist integration, personalized guidance, and meaningful progress tracking. As a result, patients lose consistency, and therapists lack visibility into their improvement.

This inspired us to create Blossom, a platform that connects therapy sessions with everyday practice, making speech improvement continuous, guided, and measurable.

What it does

Blossom is a dual-sided platform that connects patients and therapists.

For Patients:

  • Personalized daily speech exercises
  • Real-time feedback on pronunciation
  • Progress tracking and streak-based motivation
  • Ability to practice anytime, anywhere

For Therapists:

  • Assign customized exercises based on patient needs
  • Track patient progress over time
  • Monitor consistency and engagement
  • Adjust treatment plans remotely

Blossom transforms speech therapy into a continuous process rather than a once-a-week activity.

How we built it

We approached Blossom as a product-first system focused on usability and real-world application.

System Design

  • Frontend: Interactive UI prototype (Figma / web interface)
  • Backend logic: Role-based system (patient vs therapist), session tracking, and progress storage
  • AI layer (conceptual): Speech analysis for pronunciation feedback

Challenges we ran into

1. Balancing Simplicity vs Functionality

We had to choose between building a complex AI system or a clear, functional MVP. We prioritized clarity and focused on core user experience.

2. Designing for Diverse Users

Our users range from young children to adults and stroke survivors, each with very different needs. Creating a unified interface that works for all was challenging.

3. Delivering Meaningful Feedback

Speech feedback can easily become too technical or too vague. We worked to make feedback actionable, clear, and supportive.

What's next for Blossom

Short-term

  • Integrate real speech recognition APIs for accurate, real-time feedback
  • Expand the exercise library (pronunciation, fluency, aphasia-focused tasks)
  • Improve therapist analytics dashboard for clearer insights

Mid-term

  • Connect Blossom with real-world speech therapy clinics and providers
  • Enable automatic synchronization of patient data with therapists’ systems
  • Build secure data pipelines so that practice results are instantly saved and accessible to therapists without manual input

Long-term

  • Partner with healthcare providers and telehealth platforms
  • Develop personalized therapy plans using machine learning
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data standards (e.g., privacy and security regulations)
  • Introduce adaptive learning that evolves based on patient progress
