Inspiration

Hospitals are overwhelmed with medical error reporting; Healthcare professionals have to write lengthy reports to detail problems and hospital administrations have a hard time identifying problems to focus on tackling. We decided that a focused reporting solution would alleviate some of the strain on both parties.

What it does

Bloom Analytics simplifies the medical error reporting process by focusing on one healthcare error area at a time (ex: medication, patient transportation, diagnosis, etc.). It also aggregates data and then provides healthcare providers with information about what medical errors are most frequent. This allows hospital administration to better understand what problems to tackle.

How we built it

We used python to build the medical error reporting process and data aggregation. Presentation made with Slides Carnival and Canva

Challenges we ran into

It was our first time experimenting with building a GUI -- we experimented with Tkinter and Streamlit but weren't able to integrate it into our solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first Hackathon experience! We are glad we were able to learn new tools and techniques, come up with an idea, and create something (even if it wasn't the most polished!) to submit.

What we learned

We learn about how medical error reporting is a big problem in healthcare through the Patient Safety Workshop. We also experimented with Tkinter and Streamlit as GUI solutions for our app.

What's next for Bloom Analytics

Potential next steps might be figuring out how to implement our solution with a GUI and connecting our idea with AI to make recommendations to hospital administration about policy suggestions and technology improvements to decrease medical error incidence in hospitals.
