🌱 About Bloom

💡 Inspiration

Mental health is one of the most neglected yet vital aspects of a person’s well-being. In a world where people are overwhelmed, isolated, or simply unable to access support, we built Bloom — an AI-powered therapeutic companion that offers a safe, private space to talk, reflect, and begin the process of healing.

We were inspired by a simple but powerful goal: make emotional support more accessible, especially for people who are hesitant, unheard, or can't afford traditional therapy. As Muslims, we also believe in the importance of inner peace and emotional wellness, which further fueled our drive to build something meaningful.

🛠️ How We Built It

Bloom was built using Bolt.new, leveraging a custom GPT-based AI persona optimized for empathetic, therapeutic conversation. We focused on:

  • A clean and calming user interface
  • A custom AI persona that understands emotional nuance
  • Support for future voice integration and journaling features
  • Scalability to integrate with tools like Supabase for user data and session history (coming soon)

We prioritized simplicity, emotional clarity, and respect for the user’s vulnerability. Every design and code decision was made to reduce friction and increase safety and trust.

📚 What We Learned

  • How to rapidly prototype AI-powered applications using Bolt
  • How to define and guide custom GPT behavior with precision
  • How to design with empathy in mind, not just functionality
  • The balance between accessibility, privacy, and ethical AI

⚔️ Challenges We Faced

  • Building a non-clinical AI experience that still feels emotionally intelligent
  • Preventing AI hallucinations or cold responses during emotionally sensitive topics
  • Implementing clean UI interactions that feel smooth and non-intrusive (sidebar logic, modal behavior, etc.)
  • Staying mindful of ethical and religious boundaries while designing an AI that interacts with real emotional struggles

Bloom is still growing, just like the people we built it for. And we’re just getting started.
