I am regular donor and one day in 2022 I had problems to donate blood to a patient who desperately needed blood at that time. I was in Palapye, She was in Gaborone. I saw her post on facebook. She told me its possible to go to the nearest clinic and donate blood for her. Unfortanately I did not carry on to help her in the shortest time possible. Unfortunately she ended up loosing her life in next few days. Then 3 years later I thought of developing a blood donation app to save larger lifeline. Something convienient, accessible and realible to centralise blood donation operations while finding donors and still attracting more donors to health centres and Organizations. Having features that can post geo alerted alerts to donors of any oncoming blood drive to be carried on.
It is a mobile application and a website that interconnects donors to health care facilities to donate blood.Donors can have donor cards including details as a donor and they can track their donation history. Organizations can also hold drives and post alert to donors to donate blood. BloodLink creates a family within blood donation
BloodLink is still a concept with proper business model canvas . Thats when we formed a team to robustly solve this blood crisis by applying diverse skills we have. We are all products of University of Botswana. It empowers women since we included a young female motswana to have a sit and share on shaping the future.
We had problems checking feasibility and aligning it to National Blood Transfusion Services Protocol since its a new thing to them. Thats where we had problems but with time we shall make it since we succesfully managed to get them in a boat of BloodLink vision partnered with FNBB.
Managed to engage the unit of National Blood Transfusion Services after 2 pitch ups to check feasibility and they decided to give us feedback while we further refine the prototype. We will mainly focus on their interest of operations eg Donor retention.
Intergrating AI into business or any other means of operation is the future. Thats what i have learned and being teachable is key.
What's next for BloodLink We have 1 oncoming pitch to the Ministry Of Health and National Health labs to agree on operational terms.
