Inspiration
Every minute counts during a medical emergency, but finding a compatible blood donor is often slow and difficult. We wanted to build a platform that connects patients, blood donors, and hospitals in real time using Artificial Intelligence and cloud technology to reduce delays and help save lives.
What it does
BloodConnect AI is a cloud-based emergency blood donation platform that enables:
AI-powered matching of nearby eligible blood donors. Real-time blood inventory management for hospitals. Secure hospital login for doctors and authorized staff only. Emergency SOS alerts to notify nearby donors instantly. Donor registration with verification and digital donor cards. Live dashboards for hospitals to manage blood requests and availability.
How we built it
We developed the application using:
React.js for the frontend. Node.js and Express.js for the backend. PostgreSQL hosted on AWS RDS as the database. AWS Cloud services for secure hosting and database management. JWT authentication and bcrypt password hashing for secure hospital login. Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
Challenges we ran into
During development, we faced several challenges:
Configuring AWS RDS and securely connecting it to our backend. Implementing role-based authentication for hospital staff. Fixing React JSX syntax and routing issues. Designing a responsive and user-friendly interface. Managing secure database access while keeping the application fast and reliable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a complete AI-powered blood donation platform. Integrated secure hospital authentication with role-based access. Connected the application to a cloud-hosted PostgreSQL database. Developed real-time blood inventory and emergency SOS features. Created a modern, responsive user interface suitable for real-world use.
What we learned
This project strengthened our understanding of:
Full-stack web development. Cloud deployment using AWS. Database design and management. Secure authentication and authorization. Team collaboration using Git and GitHub.
What's next for BloodConnect AI
We plan to add:
AI prediction for blood demand. Mobile applications for Android and iOS. GPS-based donor tracking. Integration with government blood banks and hospitals. Push notifications, SMS, and email alerts. Multi-language support and analytics dashboards.
