Inspiration
Blood shortages and delays in finding suitable donors during emergencies can cost lives. Existing solutions are often fragmented and lack real-time donor availability and intelligent matching. We wanted to create a platform that leverages AI and cloud technologies to connect donors, recipients, and hospitals efficiently, making blood donation faster, more accessible, and more reliable.
What it does
BloodConnect AI is an AI-powered blood donation and emergency response platform. It enables donors, recipients, and hospitals to connect in real time. The platform provides donor registration, blood group matching, emergency requests, donor availability tracking, and intelligent assistance to improve response times and save lives.
How we built it
We are building BloodConnect AI using Next.js for the frontend and API layer, Amazon DynamoDB for scalable data storage, and Vercel for deployment. AI capabilities are integrated to provide smart donor matching and assistance for users.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a scalable architecture, ensuring quick donor matching, and providing a smooth user experience while handling emergency scenarios were some of the key challenges. Choosing the right cloud database and creating an efficient data model were important considerations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a real-world solution with social impact.
- Leveraging AWS cloud databases for scalability.
- Integrating AI to improve donor-recipient matching.
- Designing a platform that can potentially serve communities worldwide.
What we learned
Through this project, we gained experience with cloud-native application development, AWS databases, Next.js, Vercel deployment, and designing systems intended for real-world scalability.
What's next for BloodConnect AI
Future enhancements include location-based donor discovery, AI-powered eligibility checks, multilingual support, analytics dashboards, hospital integration, and mobile applications for broader accessibility.
