Inspiration
The inspiration behind BloodBridge Connect came from real life situations where finding blood donors during emergencies became a race against time. Social media pleas and calls for help often go unnoticed or reach the wrong audience. This platform was envisioned to solve that to create a reliable, real-time bridge between donors and those in urgent need, leveraging technology for a life-saving cause.
What it does
BloodBridge Connect is a smart blood donation platform that: Matches blood donors and recipients based on blood type and location Allows users to request or donate blood instantly Sends real time alerts to nearby compatible donors Maintains a donor database for emergency use Ensures data privacy and verification for all users
How we built it
Frontend: React.js with Tailwind CSS for a responsive and accessible interface Backend: Node.js with Express.js for server-side operations Database: MongoDB to store and manage donor/requester profiles and logs APIs: Geolocation API for proximity matching; email/SMS APIs for instant alerts Hosting: Deployed on Netlify and integrated with cloud-based backend services
Challenges we ran into
Designing a seamless UX for users in distress situations Ensuring secure and efficient location-based matching Implementing real time communication without compromising performance Building trust through verified donor profiles Handling edge cases like rare blood groups and rural locations
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a working MVP with real time donor recipient matching Designed an intuitive UI accessible to users of all ages Achieved location-based filtering and request routing Raised awareness through user testing and community engagement
What we learned
Effective project planning and collaboration under deadlines Importance of empathetic design in healthcare tools Real world implementation of full stack development and APIs Navigating challenges of data privacy and user trust
