Inspiration

Finding suitable blood donors during medical emergencies can be difficult and time-consuming. Patients and their families often struggle to identify available donors and coordinate their arrival. This inspired me to develop a platform that connects blood donors and recipients through a mobile application and web-based system, making emergency blood coordination faster and more accessible.

What it does

The platform allows users to search for suitable blood donors based on blood group, availability, and location. Users can submit emergency blood requests and connect with potential donors. Once a donor accepts a request and enables location sharing, the recipient can track the donor's live location to improve coordination during emergencies.

How we built it

The project combines a mobile application and a web-based system connected through a common backend. The mobile application enables users to manage profiles, search for donors, and submit emergency requests. The web-based system supports centralized management of donor information and blood requests. The backend and database handle user information, donor availability, emergency requests, and location updates.

Challenges we ran into

The major challenges included designing an efficient donor-search process, managing changing donor availability, and planning live location tracking. Maintaining smooth communication between the mobile application, web interface, backend, and database was another challenge. Protecting personal information and ensuring that location sharing occurs with the donor's permission were also important considerations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of developing a solution concept that brings donor searching, emergency blood requests, and live location tracking together in one platform. Combining a mobile application with a web-based system provides multiple ways to access and manage the service. The project focuses on addressing a real-world healthcare challenge through technology.

What we learned

Through this project, I gained knowledge of mobile and web application development, frontend and backend architecture, database management, API integration, and location-based services. I also learned the importance of understanding user requirements, managing data efficiently, and designing a user-friendly system that addresses real-world emergency needs.

What's next for Blood Donation Network & Emergency Availability Application

The next step is to complete and improve the integration of the mobile application, web-based system, backend, and database. Future enhancements include real-time donor availability, location-based donor matching, emergency notifications, route information, estimated arrival times, and secure communication. The long-term goal is to create a reliable platform that helps people connect with suitable blood donors and coordinate donations more efficiently during emergencies.
