Inspiration
The project was inspired by the difficulties people face when trying to find and reach blood donors during medical emergencies. During critical situations, finding a suitable donor quickly and coordinating with them can be challenging. We wanted to develop a solution that connects donors and recipients through both a mobile application and a system/web platform, making emergency blood coordination faster and more accessible.
What it does
The platform connects blood donors, recipients, and other relevant users through a centralized system. Users can search for donors based on blood group, availability, and location, while emergency requests can be created when blood is urgently required. Once a donor accepts an emergency request, the platform provides live location tracking to monitor the donor's movement and help coordinate the emergency response.
How we built it
The project consists of a mobile application and a system/web interface connected through a common backend. The mobile application is designed for donors and users to manage profiles, search for blood, receive emergency requests, and share live location. The system provides a centralized interface for managing donor information, blood requests, availability, and emergency activities. A backend and database are used to manage user information, requests, and real-time location data.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was designing a reliable system for real-time donor location tracking during emergency requests. Managing continuously changing location data, maintaining accurate donor availability, handling internet connectivity, and ensuring secure communication were important challenges. We also had to design both the mobile and system interfaces so that they remain simple and easy to use during emergency situations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a project concept that combines blood donation management, emergency requests, donor searching, and live location tracking in one platform. Developing both a mobile application and a centralized system provides different users with appropriate ways to access and manage the service.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned about mobile and web application development, frontend and backend architecture, database management, API communication, location services, and real-time data handling. We also learned how to design a software solution around a real-world emergency problem while considering usability, reliability, and privacy.
What's next for Blood Donation Network & Emergency Availability Application
The next step is to improve the integration between the mobile application, system, backend, and database. We plan to enhance real-time donor tracking, location-based donor matching, emergency notifications, route and distance information, estimated arrival time, and secure communication. The long-term goal is to develop a reliable platform that can help people find and coordinate with blood donors more efficiently during emergencies.
