Inspiration

Every year, thousands of Thalassemia patients in India struggle to find blood donors for their frequent transfusions. We were deeply moved by the stories of children who miss out on life-saving treatment simply due to the lack of timely blood availability, and the immense pressure families face trying to coordinate care.

We learned about Blood Warriors, a community-driven initiative helping these families, and wanted to support their mission by building a tech-driven solution that scales their impact using AI, blockchain, and real-time data.

What it does

📈 Key Features 🔄 Real-time matching of donors and patients

🤖 AI-powered prediction of donor availability

🏅 Gamified donor engagement with badges and streaks

🧑‍⚕️ Teleconsultation & support chat with healthcare professionals

📖 Personalized learning via multilingual chatbot

🔐 Blockchain-based logging for data integrity and transparency

🏗️ How We Built It We built Blood Bridge+ as a full-stack application with separate interfaces for:

Donors: to receive alerts, view donation history, and earn rewards.

Patients/Caregivers: to request blood, consult doctors, and access resources.

Admins (Blood Warriors): to monitor requests, generate insights, and manage users.

🔧 Tech Stack: Frontend: React (Web), Flutter (Mobile)

Backend: Node.js + Express

Database: MongoDB (NoSQL), PostgreSQL

AI/ML: Python (scikit-learn) for donor availability prediction

Chatbot: Rasa (multilingual support), integrated into UI

Blockchain: Hyperledger Fabric for secure, auditable donor logs

Security: AES Encryption, JWT-based auth, Role-Based Access Control

Notifications: Twilio / Firebase

External APIs: e-RaktKosh (blood bank database), integration planned

🚧 Challenges We Faced Data Access & APIs Getting access to official databases like e-RaktKosh was a challenge. We worked with mock data and documented how integration would work with real APIs.

AI Prediction Without Enough Data Initially, we had no historical donation patterns. We simulated realistic data and built a baseline model to demonstrate predictive capability.

Balancing Simplicity & Functionality We wanted the interface to be intuitive for users with minimal digital experience while still offering powerful backend functionality.

Security & Privacy Healthcare data is sensitive. We had to learn about proper encryption, anonymization, and how to design with privacy by default.

📚 What We Learned Throughout this journey, we learned:

How AI can be used to predict donor behavior and availability.

How critical data privacy and transparency are in healthcare applications.

How to integrate with government platforms like e-RaktKosh.

The importance of building inclusive and human-centered design, especially for patients and caregivers with limited digital experience.

🛣️ What's next for Blood Bridge+
