Inspiration
I've always thought of starting a blog, but I've never known where to begin. But this summer, I enrolled in a program where I learned how to code and am still learning. Because I needed a place where I could display my writings even if no one else saw them, I chose to start a blog that isn't mostly about me.
What it does
My site educates readers about a variety of topics, such as the reproductive system, psychology's role in helping us understand human behavior and development, love, and other topics that will soon be displayed as I gain a deeper understanding of how to use java script, CSS, and html.
How we built it
Using html and CSS, I created this website. I was learning more about HTML and CSS than java script at the time. I used YouTube to learn how to use codes and style my website because I'm a beginner. It may appear that I was merely copying and not really learning anything, but as I proceeded through the tutorial, I paid attention to the instructor's instructions regarding the when, where, and why of the use of codes. I used W3School to educate myself about certain codes in order to better comprehend. This allowed me to create my own area of the website, the blog section, which I am proud of. I made several mistakes and tried again, but I eventually completed my blog part.
Challenges we ran into
As a beginner, I had several difficulties. At first, it was the layout of my website—more specifically, the home screen and then the nav bar. My images weren't showing up on the page, and I was perplexed as to why the CSS and HTML closing tags differed. But most importantly, linking html to css bothered me. I also had significant difficulties when I tried to resize several elements of my website to match various devices; at the moment, the website's "about" section appears strange on mobile.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
When I ran the codes for my website and it worked as I had hoped it would, I would exclaim, "Yes!, oh my gosh, finally!" The navigation bar and, more importantly, when the images displayed were my first successes. My blog area is what I'm most proud of because I created it myself without using any guides. I'm proud of how I connected the dots and tried to comprehend the reasoning behind the codes I was using.
What we learned
As a beginner web developer, I have learned a lot and I have much more to learn. In this project, I learned the following:
- When adding images to a website, make sure they are in an assets folder.
- In CSS, it is important to use curly braces.
- In HTML, it is important to use an opening tag <> and a closing tag </>.
- Id, class, section, and container are used to separate and kind of link things to CSS.
- is used for links
What's next for blog
I intend to make my blog more interactive in the future so that you may choose the posts you want to read instead of scrolling. This isn't a problem right now, but when I'm more experienced, I'd like to use javascript to advance the blog page. Additionally, I intend to immerse myself in coding, especially html and CSS since I currently find those to be the most enjoyable.
