Inspiration
What it does
The Holiday Bites website offers a plethora of Christmas recipes for users to choose from, varying from sweet treats to full meals! Moreover, it also allows users to generously share their own well loved recipes to the site as well, helping to foster a close community and a strong Christmas spirit! Additionally, users are also able to write their own reviews about the site and the recipes that they have tried to recreate meals with and they are also able to read fellow user's reviews too.
How we built it
Firstly, we planned out how the site looked like as a team. Then, we split the workloads amongst the 4 of us, Harene & Chandan doing the frontend, Harshitha doing the backend and Vera doing the video! For the frontend, we used HTML to design the structure of the website and CSS to make the website look aesthetically pleasing! For the backend we use python flask to link the websites together via the Menu and the buttons found in the homepage.
Challenges we ran into
Learning python flask to do the backend took a time and patience for Harshitha as it was something that we have never learned before. The frontend part of the website took a slightly long time to create as well as format well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of getting the backend to work using python flask as well as making the website look beautiful given the short amount of time we had to do so. We are also very grateful for the teamwork that we demonstrated during the project as we were able to communicate and cooperate with each other well.
What we learned
We definitely learn a lot more on HTML and CSS as we had to code many different things that we had never coded before. We also learned a lot from python flask as we have never learnt it before but successfully used it for our backend!
What's next for Holiday Bites
Holiday Bites will definitely be including a working database next so that users can properly input their reviews into the database and view latest reviews as well as input their recipes into the database and view other user's recipes!
