Inspiration
We built a platforming arcade-style video game because we believed this is a simple and interesting idea to complete the project. It fits nicely into the arcade-style required by this project, while also capturing the thrill of jumping across danger digitally.
What it does
This project is a platforming video game, with the objective of simply reaching a star located on the right side of the screen. The goal may be simple, but the logic behind the platforms' control is complicated, challenging peoples' brains to think before they play.
How we built it
We built our entire project using Godot (game engine), with the files hosted on Github. We used Krita to create the sprites used for this project. Praful worked on the programming side of this project, while Daniel created the sprites.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of problems when creating the physics algorithms for the character and displaying sound. There was also a lot of tasks to accomplish within 24 hours, such as adding both stationary and moving platforms with so much colours. Learning the godot language was another challenge on its own.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we have created a completed game that is actually playable. The project's plan at the beginning was very vague, but we are glad that it turned out well.
What we learned
We learned how to use the Godot game engine and its platforming language.
What's next for Blocky
To advance our game Blocky, our primary goal is to simply add more levels to the game. We also wish to introduce the concept of spikes and other obstacles into our game because that seems like the standard for platformers. More info in https://github.com/PA055/HackUMBC2025/blob/main/README.md!
